Official Objectives of the Dharma Centre of Canada

To carry on the instruction and practice of meditation, the study of philosophy and religion and the performance of charitable works in Canada.

February 13, 1983
RESOLVED THAT
if an outside group were to use the centre they must have an already structured group; preferably with a teacher-student relationship. The meditation or course could not be open to the public (so there was now ay of screening or controlling undesired people). The directors must feel comfortable with the group.

March 9, 1983
RESOLVED THAT
the Dharma Centre will sponsor programs by individuals who are Bhikkhus or Bhikkhunis and who are recognized by Namgyal Rinpoche as being capable of teaching or by other beings who the board chooses to sponsor.

February 8, 1984
General Policy Resolutions

RESOLVED THAT, as a general policy, the objects of the Dharma Centre of Canada (as indicated in its letters patent, i.e.: to carry on the instruction and practice of meditation and the study of philosophy and religion) shall be interpreted to mean to carry on spiritual activities that are conducive to spiritual unfoldment, at the same time maintaining a nondenominational-Universalist overview, exploring all disciplines while adhering to none. --This overview was stated by Venerable Namgyal Rinpoche in 1983

RESOLVED THAT, as a general policy, the Dharma Centre facilities be use (sic) solely for meditation, philosophical study and other spiritual work and not for the purpose of residence either temporary or permanent nor personal recreational activity of any sort nor any activity inconsistent with the objects of the Dharma Centre. --This position was stated by Venerable Namgyal Rinpoche in 1983

By-law # 7

Being a by-law respecting extensions of objects

BE IT ENACTED and it is hereby enacted as a By-law of THE DHARMA CENTRE OF CANADA that:
1. The Corporation be and is hereby authorized to make application to the Honourable the Minister of Consumer and Corporate Affairs for Supplementary Letters Patent extending the objects of the Corporation by adding thereto the following clauses:

To operate a religious seminary, for the purpose of training ministers in the Universalist teachings.

To establish and promote a religious assembly of lay and ordained individuals to practice compassion, and the Universalist teachings.


2. The directors be and are hereby authorized to do, sign and execute all things, deeds and documents necessary or desirable for the due carrying out of the foregoing.
