from a 1995 Discourse*

This
discourse was given by the Venerated Namgyal Rinpoche
as the 'Luung' or prelude to the Sakya Pandita Wong
Kur - which he was giving as the 'entrance' to the 'Hyperspace
Retreat'- which began with the Shakyamuni Buddha Wong
Kur. It was followed by (the Healing Triad; the wrathful
form of Manjusri - Yamantaka; the female form of Manjusri
- Orange Tara; and the Great White Umbrella Mother),
Wongs and other discourses. This very partial transcript
is being offered to those interested in the Renewal
of the Dharma Centre of Canada as an inducement to listen
to the whole recording - as well as those others on
the Renewal page - to assist in their deliberations.
It is offered with love and respect to the Rinpoche
and to the Dharma Centre by an ignorant archivist of
little realisation... [We're nearly 10 years behind
the Rinpoche's Aspiration!]

Rinpoche
begins the Discourse…
I'd
like to start off with the Dharma Centre. The DC, as
I perceive it, is to make a bridge to the Eastern Teachings
and a bridge to the Western Teachings - a place where
western and eastern teachings can come together. That's
the Charter and despite this, that or the other, this
is what people are obligated - obligated! - to fulfill
- the charter. It makes a statement of purpose.
It
is not a place as a vehicle for one person! It is just
simply not! It is not my idea or the idea of the people
that were originally founding it. We didn't think of
it becoming the thing for Namgyal Rinpoche. And because
it was, it confused the whole purpose of the charter!
Now
I'll come to the point where the difficulty is. I have
had a long personal difficulty which is, to fulfill
the bridge of the east and the west. That is my day
by day approach. You can make your praises or criticisms
about the methods but always, trying to find how in
the heaven or hell do you help a western being into
attainment, to realisation?
Now
that's my purpose. Unfortunately I'm not like you. I'm
a slow-witted being that takes a lot of time for reflective
thought, trial and error. You, know all, instantly,
how things are to be done! I can see glimpses in this
matter and glimpses in that matter. However, I am glad
to announce to you, that I have finally pulled the thing
together!
I
will explain more or less where the consciousness is
at present, the way I see it. The Dharma centre, the
bridge lies east to west, west to east. And it's also
a place where the eastern teachings could be given in
order to begin the bridge work. The problem is that
you have your conditioning. I'll talk in terms of Transpersonal
Psychology. I have participated in some writings and
teachings on re-birthing etc. Right?
Now
the problem is, the westerner, in general, has the mind
for evaluation… just my evaluation… the possibility
of resurrecting some western teachings that were of
benefit to previous generations, such as the Masonry
and so on. Still, blooms there - there was that possibility.
But their options were - during that whole 'drug' period
- people were getting something out of it.
Listen
very carefully! Let me get to it, the solution. Simply
which is, it's not a viable method for an entire society.
And there are physical and physiological dangers therein!
And no, necessarily, there was not at that time an 'ordained'
philosophy. But, it had certain, methods.
So
then of course, drugs was going to do it, sex was going
to do it and please remember that at the third stage
of re-birthing a lot of warped, sexual energy is released
here, there and everywhere…
…Now
this fundamentally is what's happening to every being.
And the Dharma Center, being a human center, participates
in this kind of number, getting a re-birthing into -
and re-birthing is not into this paradise, you understand?
You cannot go back to the womb -you can re-visit. Jesus
said, "Lest ye be re-born again…" - how
is it possible?
Nevertheless,
you still have to do it. And I mean really do it; you
have to really be there. You have to re-live that womb,
that whole process. You are re-living it, but in little
bits and pieces. And much of our work has been the little
bits and pieces, dharmas here and there…
So
this is the eastern and western thing. Now, the problem
is - in the world, there are various… you could
take up shamanism and get back to this. You could go
this way or that way and society is - they're searching
desperately to find this way into the 'new-dimension
re-birthing'.
In
my opinion - I'll tell you what the problem is. And
the Tibetans have it. Vajrayana Teaching has it! They
have the way to what you would call Transpersonal Experience.
Mahayana, Right? Its there and it's a living tradition.
And Shamanism - its there also. But you're not Tibetan
and you're not Shamanist, you're not really born in
these traditions which are alive and doing it!
Now,
in the west… meanwhile, back at the ranch - little
Suzie is all tied up…
You
have to draw together the work of Hyperspace, the Cognitive
Sciences, Transpersonal revelations etc, together with
the Ancient Ways of Experiencing. You must overcome
time and space by passing over into Hyperspace - Experience
New Dimensions! To do this you need a consistent, orderly,
systematic analysis of 'empty' and so on… there
are definite properties to higher mind… opening
time and space…
Mind
is becoming 'extra-terrestrial' very rapidly and the
Dharma Centre must catch up!
A
total, 'Planetary' vehicle which is not east, not west,
has to come into being! And I insist that you respect
the ancestors and respect this tradition because it's
a living tradition. Those people did it, they have gone
before - you will not get anywhere without great ancestor
respect! Respect the Patriarchs and respect the Matriarchs,
all the generations that have gone before! Their contribution
is within you now. If you don't respect the ancestors
then you don't respect the foundation.
…respect
traditions that have done it and respect traditions
that are trying to do it. You must bring them together
and therefore you will fulfill the purpose of the Dharma
Centre!
Get
resource people from the Cognitive Sciences, Hyperspace,
Transpersonal Psychology and the Tibetan Tradition etc
for the latest, 'cutting-edges' views - Manjusri's sword!
There
isn't an animal on the planet that you cannot be, including
the insects. You are in a vast field of consciousness
- and matter is intelligent! There is no split mind/matter.
Now,
all this, in a nut-shell is what you want to be on about.
The problem is - How do you get there?
You
must have the right motivation - Relative Bodhicitta
& Absolute Bodhicitta. You want to be a Dharma Centre
- you've got the ideas! Hopefully by the year 2000 we'll
have in place a viable - 'This Generation' - Vehicle
for Transcendence!
